This follows on from our petition to 10 Downing Street last year which resulted in over 13,000 people supporting the use of LDN. Currently there is a large body of around 7,000 people with serious diseases in the UK currently using it. It costs just 1/day instead of the 7000 - 40,000 pounds a year for the alternatives currently supported by the NHS. We feel that the current savings to the NHS which are enough to fund this research (around 15 million/year per 1000 users) should be ring fenced and made available to provide the funding. This approach avoids using funds allocated for research which would affect research panel decision making. Also, we are a large patient group who need the reassurance of science to confirm the effectiveness of this therapy. The Rt Hon Nia Griffiths MP, will be handing in this petition to the House of Commons and I would be very appreciative if you as my MP would support this. The wording of the petition is as follows:- The Petition of xx, Declares that the Petitioners believe that the Government should recognise the requests of patients with many serious diseases list here and should cause definitive research to proceed into the use of Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) as a safe drug therapy; Further declares that the Petitioners believe that, when a significant number of patients have refused the available treatment options and chosen another option instead, this creates an imperative for any necessary research into the treatment to be performed; that the Petitioners believe that LDN is a low cost drug which treats a large ranges of conditions, which otherwise require very expensive treatment protocols, that the savings potential for the NHS is very large, and that the safety of the drug is very attractive to people facing toxic alternatives; Further declares that the Petitioners believe that withholding research into LDN is a violation of the human rights of the patients concerned who number over 7000 in the UK and over 100,000 worldwide, and growing; and that the current system is unable to respond to this situation and ought to be revised so that it can respond appropriately. The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urge the Government to respond to the requests of patients and take steps to allow research to take place into the use of Low Dose Naltrexone. And the Petitioners remain, etc., I would be grateful if you would kindly agree to have your name included amongst the other MPs supporting this petition and I look forward to receiving your response.
